💻 ONLINE COURSE, ON-DEMAND
With 180 hours of technical content, this online course is designed for engineers, designers, freelancers, technicians, and students involved in the calculation, design, selection, manufacturing, safety, quality, and maintenance of systems and equipment in industrial processes.
API 650 | Design of Aboveground Storage Tanks
120 hours course dedication
What to expect?
- Design storage tanks according to API 650 code and complementary criteria.
- Select materials considering corrosion, mechanical properties, and regulatory requirements.
- Calculate wall thicknesses based on design height and hydrostatic load.
- Design tank bottoms including annular plates and thickness distribution.
- Model fixed and floating roofs with self-supporting or supported structures.
- Verify structural stability using wind rings and stiffening elements.
- Analyze external pressure combined with wind loads and overturning moments.
- Size standard and special connections and flanges with structural reinforcements.
- Evaluate seismic actions and their impact on the base, displacement, and strength.
- Design anchor bolts to resist uplift, wind, and seismic loads.
API 653 | Inspection & repair of storage tanks
60 hours course dedication
What to expect?
- Apply the API 653 standard in the inspection, repair, and reconstruction of storage tanks.
- Assess the fitness for service of the tank’s roof, shell, bottom, and foundation.
- Determine minimum thicknesses and acceptable settlement criteria according to Appendix B.
- Conduct external, internal, and in-service inspections using methods specific to the code.
- Perform hydrostatic tests, leak-tightness tests, and non-destructive examinations per regulations.
- Design repairs for walls, bottoms, and roofs using lap plates and partial replacements.
- Install new connections and modify the tank’s shell height in accordance with the code.
- Manage the dismantling and reconstruction process considering dimensional tolerances.
- Document markings, records, and nameplates after repairs or alterations.
- Requalify tanks modified due to changes in pressure, temperature, or service conditions.
What will you learn with this pack?
- Design storage tanks according to API 650 standard requirements and associated appendices.
- Evaluate structural integrity of in-service tanks in compliance with API 653 guidelines.
- Select suitable materials for construction, repair, and modification of metallic tanks.
- Calculate minimum thicknesses and critical dimensions for bottom, shell, roof, and connections.
- Apply internal and external inspection criteria, including non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques.
- Identify brittle fracture risks and establish preventive measures in operational tanks.
- Design self-supporting roofs and structures resistant to wind and seismic loads.
- Execute certified repairs on shell, bottom, roof, and tank connections.
- Determine inspection intervals based on corrosion, service conditions, and operational history.
- Verify fitness for service through technical analysis of settlement and tank deformations.
- …and much more!
